Men’s Health Symptoms to Watch For: 3 Signs You Shouldn’t Ignore

Like many men, I delay going to the doctor’s office. But June is Men’s Health Month, so as a physician board-certified in longevity and wellness, I want to raise awareness about men’s health symptoms to watch for as you age. If you’re a man over 40 near Grand Rapids who is noticing early signs of men’s health decline—like fatigue, sleep disruption, or changes in sexual performance—do NOT delay getting evaluated. Here are three men’s health symptoms you shouldn’t ignore:

  1. Your erections aren’t what they used to be. Whether they are less frequent, less firm or have less staying power, this could indicate not only hormonal, but also metabolic, neurologic, vascular and other medical issues. Don’t delay getting evaluated, because erectile changes are easier to address if they are caught earlier.

  2. Your muscle mass or strength is declining. If your muscles feel achier, are shrinking, seem weaker, or aren’t responding to working out, there could be hormonal, metabolic, and other medical causes. Don’t delay getting evaluated, because muscles protect us from diabetes, heart disease and other issues.

  3. Your sleep is getting disrupted. Good sleep helps everything, and bad sleep hurts everything – not just your energy level and mental clarity, but also your hormonal and metabolic function. Don’t delay getting evaluated, because poor sleep can easily become habitual and harder to remedy.

These three changes – declines in erections, muscle mass and sleep – are the men’s health symptoms to watch for if you want to optimize longevity and wellness. If you’re a man over 40 in Ada, Grand Rapids or the surrounding areas and you’re experiencing any of these symptoms, call GenAge Center to schedule a comprehensive medical evaluation right away. We offer hormonal and metabolic testing and can help you understand if your hormonal levels are optimal.
